Sexual Assault

What is sexual assault?

Sexual assault is a sexual act done to, or in front of, someone when it is not wanted.  Most people who experience sexual assault know the person who has assaulted them, and it can happen to anyone.

Sexual assault can be: kissing when it is not wanted, rough or violent sex, refusing to use condoms, rape, inappropriate touching, exposing genitals or sexual acts with children.  It does not matter if the person is in a relationship with the victim, if a sexual act is unwanted then it is sexual assault.

Most people who sexually assault others, do it for power and control over another person, not just for the sexual feeling.

The majority of sexual assault victims are women, but men can be sexually assaulted too.

Sexual assault is NEVER the fault of the victim.
